The Westerhall Secondary School was opened in the year 2000. It was led by Mr. Raphael Johnson who was the first Principal of the institution.  The school began with the forms 1 and 2 levels and 11 teachers.  Some of the current teachers who were a part of the first staff include Ms. Howard, Mrs. Samuel, Mrs. La Crette, Mrs. Pierre, Mr. Castle and Mr. Mc. Quilkin.

The school held its first graduation ceremony in the year 2004.  When Mr. Johnson left as principal, Mrs. La Crette who was the vice principal, acted as principal until the arrival of Mrs. Winifred Foster in 2005.  She remained as Principal until 2009.  Mr. Martin Mitchell became Principal in 2010 until January of 2016. Presently Mrs. Bernadette Andrew Samuel is now the acting Principal.

Although young, the institution has copped a number of titles; including Secondary School basketball competition 2011; Intercol Champions 2012; Drum Corps champions 2011.  These, along with a number of second place finishes, not omitting second place at the 2011 intercol games this ensure that WHSS is a renowned name in the field of sports. Nerissa De Coteau (discus) was the first and only female athlete of WHSS to win Gold at Intercol while Thaddison Paul (Athletics/sprints) was the first male to do so. Other athletes who made a name for themselves include; Tevin Mc. Meo (200 & 400M)  Kellon Alexis (Discus and Shot Putt); Jayon Creedland (Shot Putt & Discus) Tevin Edgehill currently holds the Intercol record for High Jump Senior boys.

So far our school has staged 15 sport meets.  Of these 15, Scoon house has won eight (8), Palmer six (6) and Williams 1.  De Gale has not won any.

Currently the school offers 30 subjects. And is divided into six (6) departments:  Mathematics, English, Modern Language, Technical, Social Sciences and Sciences. On roll currently, the school comprises of 428 students (males 262 and females 166) and a staff of 39 teachers.

The School song was written by the first Principal, Mr. Raphael Johnson, and the school crest/logo was designed by our first Art Teacher, now deceased, Mrs. Lisa Francis.  The school motto is striving for Excellence.  The core values of our school are Pride; Respect; Honesty; Excellence and Spirituality.
